My 2 cts:
I have used (in production systems) old DEC700 terminal servers, the
Lantronix SLC series, and Moxa NPort servers.
The DEC were basic (TTY only configuration, no ssh) and took ~10-12
years to die.
From the latter two, I remember the Lantronix units having two network
interfaces (nice for out-of-band management), while the NPort can
remotely configure individual ports to be RS232 or RS485 (nice for a
one-thing-hosts-all application).
Cheers,
~Ralph
