The example you give looks a lot like the default device support code
for aiRecord, which is implemented in devAiSoft.c
https://github.com/epics-base/epics-base/blob/3.16/src/std/dev/devAiSoft.c#L79
As has been mentioned you need to make sure that the DBR_* macro used
must match the type variable you give as a buffer. Also, reading a link
field should be done with dbGetLink() instead of plain dbGet().
