Hi Kristi,

The APC or other vendors can support SNMP or other protocols. We use the SNMP to monitor and control each port minimally. IT security group doesn't like SNMP, by the way.

Tripplite sells 16 ports with 1U size. You can take a look at their products.

However, you must check two things.

• Current consumption of your entire hardware connected to that PDU. This will give you the correct PDU. Note that North America has a 20% or 25% limitation of the max current of PDU. For example, PDU supports 30A, you only use 26A in North America.
• Location of PDU, if you want to put them in the tunnel, you should consider the shielding for PDU or any side effects from radiation.

We use ethernet power strips from APC that allow remote control (on/off/reboot) of each port on the power strip individually.  The standard number of ports is 8 but we also use power strips with more ports. However, I  only need one port that will be installed in up to 35 chassis (installed in the tunnel) that will allow the power cycle the hardware plugged into this port, if necessary.  I really don’t want to purchase a 8 port power strip when I only need 1 port.  If another lab uses such a device, I’d also like to download the EPICS driver, or asyn protocol file to talk to the device. I realize that many of these devices come with a web interfaces, but want to integrate this into the EPICS control system. Also  web interfaces are generally not permitted on our production systems.

 

Any recommendations would be appreciated.
