The name change was deliberate. If we used the term "EPICS Base 7.x" it would refer to the core C/C++ code excluding the EPICS V4 modules (PV Data, Normative types, PV Access, pva2pva etc.) which have separate source repositories. EPICS 7 releases have always included them as well.

  • EPICS Base 7 is sometimes referred to as EPICS 7, but EPICS Base
    3.15 and older are always referred to as EPICS Base <version>, never as
    EPICS <version>.  Why is that?

 

Say “EPICS 7” 10 times aloud and notice how close you are to EPICS heaven.
