Initial port was done at LBL by Chris Timossi. I integrated the 
his changes + improved the general portability of the code for 3.12. 
This is in the latest 3.12 beta however the PC port needs to be 
retested.  Chris: are you still interested in testing the port? 
Perhaps Mike can fetch you a copy?
