I personally have never liked the the current method of using shell scripts
to build source. It really makes the build process too unix-centric. Granted
with added expense and effort you can make a lot of systems look like unix
but that seems the wrong approach if your goal is system independence. Perl
is available on most systems and can certainly do anything that the C shell
can.
