There's a lot of sample code for Hideos-based device support that
would talk to an IP module hosted by your MVME162. Hideos is
probably not the simplest way to get serial communication going,
however. It's intended mainly to offload a significant I/O burden
from the EPICS processor to an intelligent IP carrier, but it can
run entirely on the EPICS processor, and it includes support for
other IP modules.
