In fact we are highly interested in solutions around Oracle.
The current idea is more related to use Oracle as a tool to store
compressed data than to use it for current data.
The biggest problem here is not to store the data - but to retrieve the
data from a relational database with reasonable performance. Before
implementing anything I would be interested to join a test program to
find out the best compromise for reading and writing from/to Oracle. In
any case we will have to interface some of our viewers (including
StripTool) to Oracle to display archived data from another source (non
EPICS).
In order to plan for a common interface to various archive sources
several EPICS users seem to be interested to collect information's about
this interface to be able to specify an API which as many institutes as
possible will agree on and join common developments.
Who ever is interested - let me know!
Matthias
