Stephanie,

I don't think that we are using the same version. The 3/8 distribution is
not the bunch of tar files. I think that was released in January. The 3/8
version that I got was a single tar file that had all the tars expanded.
Much easier that the earlier distribution.

For Ralph's info, the distribution is found following the Software
Distribution link on the APS EPICS web page.

I would be interested in getting the patches as they appear and trying to
hammer on some of the compile problems. I am not real familiar with the
code but I think that Linux is ultimately where I want to head with this.
It seems to be going much better than my last attempt so I am hopeful.

Thanks,

John

Hello,

I also got the "3/8" distribution (which is actually a group of tars)
and the gateway software in there is exactly the same as the software
Ralph made available to me a month or so ago. You need to have the cas
and gdd changes to go along with it (I compared the cas/gdd from Ralph
to the 3.13.2 base distribution and came up with a short list).

By the way, we got the gateway software to work (solaris) last week
(we had site-specific link problems that took a while to resolve).
We had to make 2 little changes to the gateway to meet our requirements:
(1) Don't allow any PV not in the alias file to go through.
(2) Allow simple-minded wild-carding in the alias file.
I haven't yet figured out how to get these changes back into the master.

I need to finish our gateway testing this week - need to look at
performance and understand the statistics a bit better. The gwStats.adl
display works nicely though for the latest version of dm2k, I had to
change
the background color of all the text updates (I think it's a dm2k bug).

Ralph, thanks for your help. Let me know if there's anything I can do
in return.

Stephanie
