Another solution might be to modify dm/medm/dm2k/javaCA/tclCA/
pythonCA etc to provide the option to display the timestamp associated
with any PV, as is provided by channel access. For instance, in
dm there could be a new entry in the text update object's format menu
(display timestamp). This would avoid the need to add additional
records to the IOC. Of course the timestamp record nevertheless
has the excellent benefit that it will work with all clients that
can display a PV as text - even those that do not have built in
support for timestamps.
