quoting Ralph Lange's last message on the subject here:

I would like to suggest that messages to Tech Talk should be sent as
plain text (US-ASCII or ISO 8859-1 encoding).

There still are many people out there using terminal based mail readers
that don't show html mails in a decent way. The current tech talk
archive engine shows html as source which isn't always fun to read. None
of the html mails posted on tech talk so far made use of any html
feature that couldn't be achieved using ASCII.

Please configure your mail clients or address books to use plain text
when sending to tech talk.

Thanks a lot,
Ralph

Maren adds:

have a look how it shows up in the tech-talk archive at:
http://www.aps.anl.gov/asd/controls/epics/maillists/tech-talk/200012/20001218.html#0
whether people can read it when they receive email like this or not,
once your email gets deleted from the recipients emails what is left
is what is in the archive. What is in the archive looks like what I'm
quoting below.

Thanks,

Maren
