Dirk,
Wow that's fast! What I am using takes at least eight (8)
minutes minimum to boot. But, I am using much older KineticSystems
Corporation Model VXI 195-21 chassis's which is Motorola 68000 CPU
based!
Hope this will make you feel better.
Also, in my case, the Motorola 68000 CPU is booting from
an old HP 9000/745 host computer across a 10 Mbit network. The
68000 CPU must transfer its operating system and all files that it
needs to operate from the host HP computer. So, slow + slow + slow
must equal even slower.

Dirk,
when I reboot a Motorola MVME5110, it takes ages (30 sec to be
exact) until the vxWorks boot procedure starts. It takes another 30
seconds starting the loaded vxWorks kernel.
Does anyone know what the board is doing in all that time? The
MVME2306 have never waited for so long. Can I reduce that time?
I see exactly the same 30 second delays on MVME2700 when they are
connected to certain models of Ethernet switches. I believe it is a
problem with the 10/100 or full/half duplex negotiation. I have
always been able to eliminate the problem by putting an Ethernet hub
between those switches and the MVME2700. I believe that Andrew
Johnson made changes to the bootrom code and BSP to try to fix the
problem, but they did not help.

The delay is *before* anything happens on the network:
-> reboot
[30 seconds delay]
Press any key to stop auto-boot...
0
auto-booting...
[all the boot parameters printed here]
Attached TCP/IP interface to fei0. [no delay here!]
Attaching network interface lo0... done.
Loading... 1461088
Starting at 0x100000...
[30 seconds delay]
Attached TCP/IP interface to fei unit 0 [no delay here!]
Attaching network interface lo0... done.
.....
The delay also happens when I boot from TFFS (flash file system) with
no network connected.
