This is not an answer to Ron's question, but a related warning. I have
seen 3 MVME2700 boards destroyed at the APS by making the following
simple mistake:
- The Motorola transition card is supplied with a ribbon cable and a
paddle card
- The correct way to hook this up is to plug the paddle card into P2 on
the VME backplane, and plug the ribbon cable into the transition card.
- However, it is perfectly possible to connect it the other way,
plugging the ribbon cable into the P2 connector on the VME backplane,
and plugging the paddle board into the transition card. DOING SO WILL
DESTROY THE MVME2700!!! In most cases one of the large chips on the
MVME2700 actually explodes.
Motorola has replaced all 3 MVME2700 boards free of charge under
warranty. Why they don't key the connection to the transition card to
make it impossible to make this simple mistake is beyond me.
