Ralph has responded to part 1 of your message.
I have looked at part 2. On looking through the code, it looks as though it
should be able to acknowledge alarms in -global mode; that is, do puts on
the ACKT and ACKS fields. I had never checked that before, but I have
verified that it does not appear to work now. It will take some time to
debug this, since I am currently overloaded with similar problems after
returning from vacation. I will get back to you when I have some more
information.
In regard to part 3. MEDM should not hang. It merely sends out the request
and continues. The Gateway does not handle puts as well as well as gets. A
regular put should be OK, but for a put with callback, it must wait for a
roundtrip for the callback, and it has to queue any other puts until each is
finished. This can slow things down for multiple, simultaneous puts. If
you are using a slider to set the motor record, that might explain it. My
experience is that reasonable numbers of puts go through without a
noticelable delay. In most uses of the Gateway write access is not allowed,
so this is not usually a problem.
