Hi Ian,
I've also had good luck with using the built-in debug record
for drvASCII. If it's not allready in your database just add
a longout record named "debug", DTYP="Ascii SIO", and use
the <debug> command prompt in your OUT field". If you don't
use this already it shows the raw io serial stream as seem
by drvAscii. Turn it on/off with a message button or similar
to set the pv.
There's also various other debug levels you can set from the
shell:
drvAsciiDebugLevel = 0
#drvAsciiDebugLevel = 64
#drvAsciiDebugLevel = 128
Hope that helps,
-Matt

Ian,
I have several instances similar to this, where other text makes getting the number I want almost impossible. You might try <%5k%e;%*f;%*f;%*f;%*f>, if this doesn't work (most often because there is a space in the text that can't be matched), then read the info into a stringin record and forward link to a soft ai record that gets it's VAL from the stringin record.

Subject: drvAscii decode string
I'm trying to read the following into an ascii analogin record:
"=V913 1.13e-04;59;11;0;0"
and to extract the 1.13e-04 or whatever. Using <%5k%f> just times out
and so does <=V913%f>. Using %e makes no difference. If I read the
value into a stringin record, there is no problem apart from the fact
that it's a string.
Any suggestions?
TIA
