You might also like to look into your floating point (emulation) support.
The XScale doesn't have hardware FP, and if you're using an emulation
library which supports the old ARM FPA format then you'll run into a
channel access compatibility issue: the network byte order is .. uh ..
unexpected.
I have a patch to EPICS, which I believe may make it into .9, which uses
the configuration symbol CA_FLOAT_NWFP (NetWinder Floating Point, seems to
be the canonical ARM floating point emulation library, as far as I can
tell) to enable the appropriate .. strange .. byte ordering for channel
access. (The patches are included in the Libera EPICS distribution,
http://sourceforge.net/projects/libera-epics .)
