  I'm all for unification if it's possible. At least, it would be good 
if the API could be the same, even if the implementation is separate. 
Then one can choose which application to use without rewriting code. 
Till's code supports Matlab and SciLab. I don't have a budget for 
Matlab, so I tried SciLab. It turned out to be rather slow for what I 
was trying to do. I am a long-time Octave user, and I discovered that 
bringing CA (in particular the EzCA library) calls into it was rather 
simple. Octave is, in my experience, faster and less buggy than SciLab. 
I didn't investigate mca, since I didn't have Matlab :). I would be 
happy to try and bring the Octave interface into coincidence with a 
Matlab one, if we can agree on the API.
