Heidenhain has a POSITIP device supporting their EnDat interface.
It is a serial-based device (the PT880) which can read
EnDat output from their encoders. Look in this direction.

The PT880 is capable of handling up to 6 axes.

At LCLS, we have a requirement for a Heidenhain model ROC-425 or ECN-425
absolute multi-turn rotary encoder. It comes with two types of 'serial'
interface: SSI, or EnDat22.
Are any EPICS users familiar with this model? I am just learning about
these interfaces. If either of them goes directly to a standard serial
port, then asyn support would seem to be ideal.
Thanks in advance for any advice or examples.
