Hi, Burkhard.
One approach would be to write a screen scraping SNL program. I wrote a
driver for the DLI PC-8000 Ethernet Power Controller using this method.
It sends HTTP requests to the device's embedded web server and extracts
the information of interest from the responses. If you want to see how
