Ah!
Actually, it does open, but as long as the "Welcome" screen
is maximized to fill the whole window,
you don't see that for example a Data Browser opened up "behind" it.
When following the first steps outlined on the Welcome screen
<<In case this introduction is "maximized" to fill
the whole application window, use the "Restore" button ...>>
other windows like a newly opened Data Browser will become visible.
Closing the Welcome screen of course also works.
