John Maclean wrote a Perl script called capr that does this to some extent,
but it's rather old now (2003), relies on the command-line program caget (but
not the one that comes with Base), and as you would expect can only display
those fields of a record that are accessible through CA. It has to parse a
DBD file to work out what fields each record type has, but it has a default
path and will also read an environment variable so you don't have to specify
the path every time. I can provide a copy if anyone is interested, but it
will probably need some effort to get it working at another site.
I thought Kay Kasemir had included a tool like this into CSS at one point, but
I might be wrong about that.
