Excellent point, can I suggest a name for this property of an display manager: 
It uses what I would call a Semantic Display Description, after Tim Berners-
Lee's ideas of the Semantic Web http://www.w3schools.com/web/web_semantic.asp

Note that I'm not advocating anything to do with RDF here, just agreeing that 
the tool should separate the structure and content of a display definition 
from its presentation, like XHTML requires the use of CSS (Cascading Style 
Sheets) for all style information.
