One hast o change the default in ad2ui,  whilethe problem is that the default direction is not written in the medm file, so that adl2ui needs the same default as medm.

Maybe adl2ui could just use to orientation as specified in the adl file, which I think that's what Keith is looking for.  I don't think you want to default to any particular orientation, you just want to recreate the orientation as already specified.
