Hello Florian,

you didn't mention the OS you are running CSS upon. But if you (try to) run Eclipse 3.x (or a CSS based on it) on a more or less up-to-date linux distribution
there are some known bugs related to GTK:

* KDE Bug 327441 - Using oxygen-gtk2 causes eclipse/swt to crash (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327441)  --> our workaround is to use another theme by setting GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Raleigh/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
* Eclipse Bug 404776 causes a crash when opening Help (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=404776) --> our workaround is to open it in an external browser instead, i.e. setting the VM param -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla
* displaying issues when using GTK3 --> our workaround is to use GTK2 instead by setting SWT_GTK3=0

If you do not depend on your site specific version you could also download and test the most recent 3.3.x build or the 4.2.x release at

http://controlsystemstudio.org/controlsystemstudio/current.html#

Dear all,

some time ago we build our own site-specific version of CSS using
version 3.1.1 for the
PANDA experiment.
Since PANDA is still in a R&D phase this site-specific version was more
or less playing around and getting
CSS to know.

Unfortunately we are running into severe problems using CSS.
On some machines one has to start CSS three times, because the first two
tries always generate seg faults,
on other machines it does not start at all.
On the PC I'm currently using in our lab CSS starts, but as soon as one
opens an OPI file, either in runtime or
in editor mode, CSS simply freezes.
The problems occur with both JDK versions (openJDK and sun/oracle).
Since version 3.1.1 is quiet old, I would like to try the current
version of CSS.
Is there a "generic" version of the IDE available for testing?

Thnaks for the answers!
Best regards,
Florian
