As you are in a VM with this only purpose, you can try an ugly
"solution" (children don't try it at home):
sudo ln -s /var/lib/libreadline.so.5 /var/lib/libreadline.so.4
Just to check if you can quickly run the samples to see how EPICS
works. But, maybe, other dependency problems may appear.
Other possibility is to use an Ubuntu older version with
libreadline.so.4.
