Hi Gary,

I just noticed that you are using Modbus R2-8.

R2-9 is the latest release, and this is from the R2-9 release notes.

*****************
Added error checking to make sure the length of the reply from the Modbus server is the expected value. Previously garbled communications could cause a crash because of array bounds violation.
*****************

This sounds like it could be the problem you are seeing. I suggest you try R2-9.

Mark

Connectivity of the meters is patchy in some cases and I cannot guarantee their availability at all times, resulting in a lot of communication errors. In the instances I am having trouble, an intermediate gateway device hosts the modbus server and supports multiple downstream meters. I can mitigate the situation by dedicating a soft ioc per IP address (gateway), but I'd like to identify the source of the problem if possible. I have other iocs using the same software to talk to other models of meter without any issues.
