I did look into this somewhat way back in 2010/2011. Debian has significant
non-technical hurdles to getting included. And doings so for a dozen or so
packages seemed like a significant effort without a clear upside for NSLS2.
This, coupled with technical pushback on some of my decisions
(eg. /usr/lib/epics/include vs /usr/include) soured me on the idea.
It remains feasible for anyone willing to spend the time needed.
So while I don't see myself leading such an effort (absent funding*),
I'll assist as much as possible if someone else wants to have a go.
* To be clear. Debian packaging and distribution maintenance is
a huge time savings for devs. and sys admins. It's also tedious,
monotonous, and hugely boring work for packagers. So I'm not
motivated to spend my free time on this work.
