Dear all,
for the PANDA Experiment we are currently writing a Technical Design
Report for the Detector Control System (DCS).
Our DCS will be based on EPICS and cs-studio.
We will have roughly 20 sub detectors (Tracking, Calorimeter, PID,
....). All sub detectors have their own network separated from the
others via ca-gateways. The number of channels is still unknown. Our
Electromagnetic Calorimeter e.g. will have ~50000 PVs.
cs-studio OPI's are running behind the gateway. Archive Engine and Alarm
Server will be running in the corresponding sub detector networks (one
Archiver/Alarm Server per sub detector)
In the TDR we have to discuss the requirements on the network
architecture. Therefore I would like to ask if someone can give me some
hints from their experience.
So far we have only small scale prototypes where simple network switches
are more than enough. But I do not have an experience with large scale
EPICS systems.
Best regards,
Florian
