At NSLS2 we build from source, following areaDetectror build infrastructure.
All other modules we deploy via packages.
With areaDetector adding new features at a quite a pace, vital (for NSLS2) bugfixes, PVA support for images via base 7, divers OSs, which often come with the detector, etc. we just natively gravitated to this solution.
