Hi Simon,

Is it possible to read info fields on a DB record via either Channel Access or PV Access? I note that it is possible to read them from within the IOC shell via the dbli function added in 7.0.1.1, but I am wondering if it is possible to read them over a network and not from within the IOC.

That was never my intention when I originally added info items to the database, but it would have been quite a bit harder back then. Other people have also suggested it since and I don’t see any problems with making them readable from outside, but I’m now aware of any work to actually implement that.

It occurs to me that the simplest way to support this might be to create a server-side filter that fetches the info tag data instead of trying to embed this into the IOC code. I just filed an entry in our bug database with some suggestions and things to be aware of for anyone who wants to have a go at writing such a filter. The result could be written to be support any 3.15 or later version of Base, although the 7.0 branch does have some info-related APIs that are not present in 3.15.

Complexity comes for free, simplicity you have to work for.
