I recently had cause to run an old/cheap oscilloscope with software
usb over ethernet using usbip on Linux[1]. This worked well as an
ad hoc setup which I only needed for an afternoon.
However, even in that time it was obvious that re-connection,
or recovery from USB device reset, are not handled well.
I had to manually unbind/re-bind, and restart my application, each
time to get things working again. I wouldn't want to try to keep
a setup like this running for an extended period.
