Hi Andy--

Creating record instances using existing record types is quite easy. With the existing record types from EPICS base, plus a handful of other record types in widespread use, most if not all of your needs should be covered. That is one of the real strengths of EPICS: without having to write any code, it’s possible to setup and configure your control system runtime logic using EPICS records. 

Nonetheless, it looks like it was a good learning experience for you and welcome to the community.
