export EPICS_CA_ADDR_LIST=<VM IP>  should get you to one IOC.

If you have multiple IOCs on that host, you'll have to either
export EPICS_CA_ADDR_LIST=<broadcast to subnet of the VM>
and assert that broadcasts actually get there, or run a CA gateway on the VM and then set the addr list to the gateway.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] EPICS_CA_ADDR_LIST for getting remote PVs

Hello all.

i have some IOCs running in a Debian 9.13 virtual machine. I am accessing it via a Debian 9.13 container which is inside my Ubuntu 20.04. The VM and container are on different nets and i am accessing the VM via ssh.
I thought the command
export EPICS_CA_ADDR_LIST=<VM IP>
would make my container be able to caget the PVs that are on the VM, but i found the following statement on tech-talk records:
- If you set EPICS_CA_ADDR_LIST to the specific IOC machine then by default it will not work if that machine is running more than one IOC.  But there are ways to work around that.
and that is exactly my case, but i didnt find anything about how to go around that. Does anyone know how can i access PVs from another machine that runs multiple IOCs?
