Hi Mrinal,

The first thing I would suggest is to ask if Jerry Swislow is willing to send you the code for the SPEC driver, perhaps under a non-disclosure agreement.  You could then use that to write an EPICS driver.  If that does not work you could capture the RS-232 communication between SPEC and the controller, and use that to reverse engineer the protocol.

However, it might be cheaper to just replace the controller with a new one that already has EPICS support.  What are the specifications of the motor you are driving with it?

Mark

Subject: EPICS Motor record for Anorad Servo Motor Controller

Hello,

First of all new year Greetings to everyone!

Currently, I am looking into creating an EPICS MotorApp to control Anorad I-SERV-BR1 Servo Motor Controller (https://www.artisantg.com/PLC/89701-1/Rockwell-Anorad-I-SERV-BR1-Servo-Motor-Controller). We have been using this motor controller through SPEC for more than 10 years or so. The controller is connected directly to the computer running SPEC using RS-232 connection. As per the documentation of the controller, the only information available currently is that the controller shares the same versatile language as ACSPL. My question to the community is:

1) Did anybody develop a motorApp for this kind of controller?

2) Can we use any existing EPICS motorApp for this contollerr?

Look forward to get some help to start on this project.

Thanks and regards,

Mrinal
