I get it that you'd like to avoid channel access security, but eventually each IOC likely needs it, and you can get started simply like this:

# Example access security config file

ASG(DEFAULT)

{

RULE(1, READ)

RULE(1, WRITE)

}

ASG(READONLY)

{

RULE(1, READ)

# Nothing in here about WRITE...

}

----

Now you can configure records with

field(ASG, "READONLY")

and they will be read-only. So "there is some field ...to define the record as ‘read-only’", exactly as you wanted.
