Has anyone found a way to boot RTEMS using a vxWorks bootrom?  My impression is that vxWorks bootroms only want to boot vxWorks.

The obvious solution would be to revert back to the original bootrom, namely MOTLoad or PPCBUG.  However, as far as I can tell, our copies of the original bootroms have disappeared long, long ago.   I have looked on the internet to see if they are downloadable from somewhere.  I can find a few ancient m68k bootroms, but have found no sign of the PowerPC bootroms anywhere.

I also went to see who is now the owner of the MVME product line.  It appears that the VME part of Motorola was sold to Freescale, which was then sold to Emerson, which was then sold to Smart Embedded Computing, which was then sold to Penguin Solutions.  Penguin Solutions still has many of the old MVME controllers for sale.  But given how many hands the product line has passed through on he way to Penguin Solutions, who knows how much institutional knowledge about old MVME controllers actually made it to Penguin Solutions.

Does anybody know how to get these old bootroms?

Hello,

Here at SLAC.

We are using EPICS 7 and RTEMS (4.9.x/4.10.x) with the following VME SBCs:
-- MVME5500 and MVME6100 (AKA beatnik)
-- MVME3100
-- svgm (Synergy VGM Series Board) {EPICS BASE R3.15.5]

The above all use GeSys and Cexp developed by Till Straumann.

We are still slowly migrating away from RTEMS to embedded real-time linux where we need a real-time OS.

The MVME6100 with RTEMS 4.10.X is our most poplar VME-based SBC.
What we need is support for NFS version 3 or higher.  At this time we only have support for nfs version 2.
Oh and yes, we don't want to upgrade to RTEMS 5 at this time unless it is truly the path of least resistance.  🙂

Cheers,
Ernest

In preparation for the Codeathon at the beginning of March at Diamond Light Source

I am interested for which VMEbus CPUs EPICS7 support is still desired.

Working quite well already:
MVME6100 (beatnik) RTEMS5 and EPICS7, already in production at some places
MVME3100 RTEMS5 and EPICS7, already in production at some places

MVME2100? ( here I have only hearsay info)

Has worked before ;-)
MVME6100 RTEMS6 and EPICS7 (including NFS v4)

Worked on:
MVME6100 RTEMS6 and EPICS7
MVME3100 RTEMS6 and EPICS7

Adaption VMEbus for MVME2500 and RTEMS6.

Danke Heinz
