Just as an addenda on this: in a recent post by Michael's he added this link:

https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://mdavidsaver.github.io/pvxs/building.html*including-pvxs-in-your-application__;Iw!!G_uCfscf7eWS!fHEOo4xoss1gV1KpVm1gkVI_Cteoe-j1WIHSJ7hxa2ia6is5MXKbHYsoUYR9uDi4Zcaz_bB066FhF-14yFGfov33$

which, when passed through urldefense, is completely broken (at least in mac outlook) as it chops the link after "building.html", rendering it an invalid link on urldefense. Moreover, if you try copy and paste the middle section (as was advised by Andrew), it doesn't work as it converts the # anchor into a different character.

This is perhaps as much an issue with the mac version of outlook as it is with urldefense, but it is nevertheless annoying to get an email with a link that I can neither click on nor copy and paste.

Cheers,

Simon

I considered the idea of trying to strip it out before writing messages to the tech-talk archive, but that's not easy. Many emails now come base64-encoded with multi-part content, and if a message containing a decorated URL is signed, stripping the decoration off would break that signature. Note that ProofPoint do recognize signed messages and don't try to decorate the signed sections, so if you want your messages to not get decorated sign them before sending to the list.

Any word on hosting the EPICS mailing lists elsewhere? Or, is there
anything I could do to help with requesting an exception? ANL's policy
is just crazy here. I can see forcing their policy on ANL employees
when mail is delivered to each of their inboxes, but this is happening
on a mailing list that, by definition, has no inbox. If ANL is going
to do this kind of URL rewriting, it should be done before delivery to
each ANL employee's inbox, not before being sent to all the recipients
of a mailing list. And I don't think I mentioned it earlier, but it
also messes up the mailing list archives because now URLs are wrapped in
these urldefense.us URLs, which means the urldefense.us URLs must remain
valid and functional for as long as the archives are expected to last.
