Hi,

25 years of successful operation at BESSY II have already passed and

while it is continuing, we're planning for a successor 4th generation

light source BESSY III to be built on a new nearby greenfield campus.

While plans get more and more detailled, colleagues want to start naming

their planned components.

Our 25+ years old BESSY II device- and signal-naming convention is still

in use for two operational machines and a couple of test-stands, but is

already at its limits and cannot be reasonably extended furthermore.

So we're looking for ideas and input to define a new device- and

signal-naming convention to be used for upcoming projects at HZB as

early as possible in the project phase.

Since every EPICS site most probably has a well defined naming scheme,

we're kindly asking for ideas and documentation of conventions used at

other EPICS controlled light sources like storage-rings and linacs.

I'd be more than happy to see some discussions and/or receive some

emails with descriptions of your naming schemes.
