Is there an easy way to implement continuing EPICS logging while the console line is open?

Hi all,

this may be a bit of a dinosaur question, and I can't post a lot of
system details because the archive is public.

Our telescope operators open the console serial lines when they start.
This is mostly because sometimes other things grab the ports and they
wouldn't be able to connect if they had to. They usually leave it
sitting at the console switch prompt, and while that is  the case
logging continues. However, when they actually connect to a console,
e.g. to reboot something, the logging stops - and they don't
necessarily know how to disconnect.

Is there an easy way to have the logging continue when the serial line
is open? (working on a stone age system (3.13.8) and with very little
support outside of here)
