In general - if that didn't become clear enough:

Normative Types are making EPICS PVA-based solutions portable and allow generic tools (like archivers, alarm servers and GUI applications) to handle data, because they "understand" NT structures.

If you are creating your own non-standard structures, only your own applications will be able to understand and handle them correctly.
The simplification of creating your own structures comes with a cost.
