Similarly, ITER only allows personal accounts in the production control system.
As far as I understand, the roles are assigned via LDAP groups, which are understood by EPICS Access Security running on our CA and PVA Gateways. (The UAG may contain the name of an LDAP group, in which case being a member of that group will make you part of the UAG. LDAP follows the shift calendar.)
Console machines have fixed assignments to persons during a shift and are logged out and then logged in at turnover.
