Well, DOL just needs to be a link.

That link could point to an unused field of the same bo record, which is set to 1 (e.g., EVNT). If the locking gets in the way, make it a CA link.
(Also make sure to document this properly, so it doesn't get removed by a well-meaning colleague later on.)
