Since you've called me out :) I haven't commented as there is no concrete
change under consideration. I didn't see much I could add to a
semi-abstract discussion.
You asked for it though, so here goes...
There is good reason for upstreams (from a linux distro. prospective) to
favor '/usr/bin/env', as this makes minimal assumption about the *nix system
environment. I don't see any reason to change this. At the same time, I
understand and agree, with why Debian and other distros discourage this in
packaged software. Like it or not, this is the sort of patch which
packagers will have to manage in perpetuity.
