Hi Daniel,

We have not used Agilent E5810B. But we have been using Agilent E5810A and ICS8065. Our experience with them might be helpful to you.

We have been using ICS8065 for controlling GPIB devices through Ethernet for several years. The majority of them have been running well except few having broken. Because some of them broke, we began to use E5810A hoping that E5810A would be robust. We have used several E5810A since this year and they are so far so good. In terms of functionality, there is no much difference between ICS8065 and E5810A. In terms of web interface, E5810A provides much better web interface, where you can send commands to and read responses from the GPIB devices, which you cannot do on ICS8065's web interface. Cost wise, ICS8065's price is about 2/3 of that of E5810A. Finally, if you are going to use asyn vxi11 driver to communicate with your GPIB devices, there is a subtle difference in the way you call vxi11Configure("portName","inet_addr",recoverWithIFC/vxi11Lock,timeout,"vxiName",priority,noAutoConnect). When I use ICS8065, I have a choice to set vxi11Lock to either 0 or 1, which will!
achieve a non-exclusive or exclusive access from my IOC to the GPIB device. While using E5810A, that bit has to be set to 0. Otherwise I would get I/O errors from the asyn vxi11 driver. I haven't scrutinized those errors, but just set the bit to 0 to fix the errors.

Hi,

I plan to do GPIB with asyn using a LAN/GPIB gateway and EPICS running on a Linux PC.

What is the best choice for the gateway between Agilent E5810B and ICS8065?

Thanks in advance.
