Hi Vikram,

The ‘generic’ driver you mention is probably the linux V4L which is a generic API for media devices. Most USB webcams now have drivers that support this API. Typically the cameras can be accessed with open(), read(), close() and ioctl() calls on the cameras device file (for instance /dev/video0).

The V4L userspace API can be found here: http://linuxtv.org/downloads/v4l-dvb-apis/

A V4L areaDetector driver would be a useful addition to operate USB cameras through EPICS. For a ‘regular’ USB webcam it is probably relatively easy if you stick with controlling only a few basic parameters...

Cheers,

Ulrik

I have logitech webcam.  I don't have SDK.

It also doesn't have special driver. it is working with generic driver on fedora 19.

Thank you
