Jens

We are starting to develop a  Beckhoff system for fast interlock of the storage ring RF from our Medical Imaging Beamline.

We are currently  building a distributed system via EtherCat on fibre are using:-

TwinCAT3 Engineering environment

CX9020 Imbedded PC

EL6900  TwinSAFE PLC

EL1904 4-channel digital input terminal, TwinSAFE, 24 V DC

EL2904  4-channel digital output terminal, TwinSAFE, 24 V DC

The rationale behind this decision is that we are looking for an end to end reaction time less than 2 mS and found that this is not really possible using our installed base of Pilz safety systems. So far the 2 mS  is proving a little challenging using the safety based PLC and I/O (we are around 8-12 mS) so we have some work to do with Beckhoff Australia.

Cheers

Subject: Who uses WAGO or Beckhoff PLCs for Equipment Protection Systems?

Dear All,

Is there anybody out there using PLC hardware from WAGO or Beckhoff to implement equipment protection systems (EPS) for machine protection or beamlines?

I know that WAGO or Beckhoff devices are commonly used in many facilities but I am not sure about their usage for EPS applications. We think of doing this but it would be nice to hear about other opinions/experiences. We have been very happy with these devices not least because of the convenient EPICS interface using Modbus TCP.

Any comments are much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jens
