You missed an important part of that command.

Don't forget to add the ":$PATH" on the end or you will lose the ability

to run any of the standard command line programs from /bin (and the

other directories that were on your path).

Remember, you are *appending* the directory with the EPICS base

executables to the PATH environment variable. As you wrote it, you

*replaced* the definition of the PATH environment variable.
