I'd love for MEDM and the rest of the tools that use Motif to be
replaced!  However, my general approach has been to try to stay somewhat
close to what the APS and many beamlines at the APS use.

FWIW, pkgsrc (http://pkgsrc.org/) supports Linux and includes a Motif
package (x11/motif), so you could probably use that on Linux Mint.  With
pkgin (http://pkgin.net/), you (well, at least your users) wouldn't need
to compile anything.
