It describes how to use a text field to enter some PV name or part of a PV name, which is then used to set the macro for an embedded display.
Similarly, you could use a combo to set a text, then use that text to construct macro values for an embedded display.
Instead of setting the macro values on an embedded display, you could use ScriptUtil.openDisplay to, well, open a display.
