Hi William,

You can use the ADUVC driver to use a typical USB webcam with EPICS/areaDetector. Any device that supports the UVC protocl would work, here are some examples:

I have used this driver with raspberry Pi devices in the past.

It's even possible that your original camera would work, although I am not sure if it uses the UVC protocol. It may be worth asking the vendor if that is supported.

Best,
Jakub

I think the performance requirements for a Blackfly S are too high for a simple Raspberry Pi 3?

are there any slow, standard cameras that could work with EPICS?

Yes, they are all GenICam compliant and can be used with either the ADAravis (Linux) or ADSpinnaker (Linux and Windows) drivers in areaDetector. I would suggest the Blackfly S models, which are available in both USB 3.0 and GigE versions.

Hi William,

There is no mention on their Web site that the camera is GenICam compliant. If it were then you could use ADAravis on Linux. It appears that their software library only works on Windows.

Do you already have this camera, and if so it there any reason it could not be replaced with another one? You could replace it for less than $400 with a much better performance FLIR camera. That is much less than the cost of writing an EPICS driver for an unsupported camera.

Hi,

just wanted to check;

has anyone already integrated the following camera into EPICS ?

"Imaging Source DMK 41AU02"

its a simple greyscale USB 2.0 Camera.

there is a C library available: https://www.theimagingsource.com/products/industrial-cameras/usb-2.0-monochrome/dmk41au02/

any thoughts about this thing?
